Boutique Cafe; Central London

[+] More

We were recently appointed to design a Boutique Café for a large development company based in Central London.

The industrial nature of the building and its surroundings meant the café immediately leant itself to an urban vintage style. Whilst small in size, the space is rich in character with original exposed brickwork being a central feature, for which we could focus the design around. Clean white walls through the seating area are finished with contemporary artwork whilst in the main café space a deep violet feature wall adds warmth. Bi-fold glazed doors to part of the space flood the café with natural daylight opening out onto a large decked area with views over an iconic landscape.

The menu is abundant with seasonal, artisan produce such as large bowl salads and rustic breads and sandwiches. The presentation of product is key within the design. We sourced reclaimed and bespoke pieces of furniture which were used as chef’s tables and retail display. Apple crates were modified to fit the walls as an alternative way to display confectionary.

The main service counter is the initial focal point in the café, designed using patchwork feature tiles to the fascia with industrial style pendants positioned over the top, the eye is immediately drawn towards the delicious food on offer.

Whilst the primary function of the café is for eating it is utilised throughout the day for informal meetings. Seating had to be stylish and functional. A large bespoke communal style table seats 10 whilst the remainder of the room houses a mixture of 2,4 and 6 seater tables and benches.
