School Cafe Refurbishment | Duke of York’s Cafe

[+] More

As part of a major building programme for the school campus development we created a new concept café to bring a high street offer to the pupils and teachers. The café has a fully glazed front wall, opening out onto a large stone courtyard. We wanted to ensure the school cafe refurbishment was a contrast to the outside space and looked to achieve this by using dark timber tones, natural finishes and coffee colours for the counter and rear wall.

Sawn end grain timber blocks were used to form the counter front and this coupled with the brick walls add texture to the space, the use of multi tonal floor planks are a simple yet effective feature. Industrial touches were added as part of the school cafe refurbishment including bold pendant lighting in canary yellow.

Angular shapes draw the customers eye through to the seating area where upholstered booth seating has been utilised to create pods for social groups and informal meetings. Retro Navy style chairs were chosen for general seating, once again focusing on the industrial trend and reflecting the schools location and military heritage.

The school cafe refurbishment follows on from the re development of the main school dining area we completed in the summer of 2013.
