As we celebrate our 20 year anniversary this month, ABDA takes a look back at our story, as well as making preparations for an exciting future.

Starting life as Alan Bennett Design Associates, ABDA Design made the transformation to its current format in 1997 after David Summers had acquired the business from the its consultancy owner two years earlier.

Initially, the firm solely specialised in consultancy before Managing Director, David, chose to take the leap into the design and build for the hospitality sector in the early 2000’s, bringing with it the need for project managers and an operations team.

In ABDA Design’s 20-years, the team has continued to grow with an envious lineup of industry talent working from their Northamptonshire base. Most recently, ABDA Design has welcomed Stephen Ryan and Claire Smith as Project Consultants, and David Hones as Senior Catering Designer.

These new appointments aren’t a stopping point for ABDA Design either, David is always looking to grow and is currently on the lookout for employees in design, project management and estimating.

With the need for a more varied team, the move into design and build has allowed the team to work with numerous different operators throughout the industry, with an impressive portfolio of projects under their belt across a range of sectors including restaurants and bars, heritage and leisure sites, education and B&I.

This year has been a successful one for ABDA Design, completing work for a number of DoubleTree by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn hotels, the Dinings’ SW3 sushi restaurant in Knightsbridge and London’s historic almshouse, the Charterhouse.

David Summers comments;

We’ve always prided ourselves on our creativity and our ethos is to push the boundaries, whatever the size of a project. We are also responding to demand from clients for more sustainable design solutions and we are taking a more conscious approach in specifying equipment and materials for projects and the whole team support this.

ABDA has recently picked up a prestigious international consultancy project in Mumbai, India and also design work for a ship which is being built in Turkey.  In addition, ABDA will be delivering the design and build of the La Parade des Chefs competition kitchen for the Hotelympia show which is taking place in March 2018.

The firm is currently in the process of doubling their office space to accommodate the new staff and influx of business. This will see the office have its own design studio and a separate area for the sales, contracts, operations and accounts teams.

David concludes;

We will continue to make sure the creative team is strong.  I think our reputation is growing year on year within the industry and our client base is growing too.  We anticipate a strong future for ABDA, built on our standards of service, creativity and value for money.

With so much to celebrate and even more to look forward to, the ABDA Design team enjoyed celebrations at The Distillery in Birmingham this month.
