As a Senior Interior Designer at ABDA, Michael Hall’s daily work is made up of concept development and trend spotting. However, Michael knows that a space takes inspiration directly from the personality and objectives of the clients, allowing the development of unique and successful design projects that communicate the individuality of each client.

Want to know more about Michael’s work? We spoke to him to find out…

1) What have been your most challenging / exciting projects over the past year?

In the past year, I worked on the new office concept for a well-known law firm, which was a great privilege. The client has been very interested and engaged in the process, with this objective in creating a warm, comfortable and professional environment for their offices across the UK. We are delighted with what the team achieved and it has been very satisfying to build a friendly working relationship between our client and build team. I can’t wait to continue building the concept as the client pushes forward with more investment in refurbishments to come.

For me, it is exciting to explore concept development for new office spaces as this marks a change to our general work. I often utilise my skills in restaurant design and apply these to the new scheme, in order to give consideration to the employees and their clients.

2) What hospitality design trends are on your radar for 2019?

I am an avid fan of Heatherwick Studio and like the approach taken of problem solving to develop new interior schemes. Each time a project is started I believe it is good to have a clean sheet and not to follow trends. The client input and site context continue to be a source of inspiration to me, and as such offer different approaches every time. ABDA encourage us to be free thinking in our concept development – sometimes inspiration can grow from a word said by the client or something local to the project.

3) What do you enjoy most about being part of the ABDA team?

ABDA is a fantastic place to work. I enjoy the fun we have as a team and that we continue to emphasise the benefits both professionally and personally that this brings. I am grateful of the support that has been given to me and the freedom when needed.
