British Sugar Restaurant & Cafe
We originally worked with British Sugar back in 2012 at its head office in Peterborough and then in 2018 we were asked to work on a new site in the centre of the town. This was a greenfield site which accommodated approximately 300 people a day.
The coffee bar is a stand-alone counter away from the main servery and is situated in the Atrium which has quickly become the ‘hub’ of the building. Employees can enjoy a range of Artisan coffee, chilled drinks and grab and go options including pastries and cakes. Whilst the main servery and staff restaurant includes a salad offer and grab and go items alongside a more traditional hot service with an open pass through to the kitchen.
The kitchen is separated into two sections with the wash up and stores to one side of a corridor and the main kitchen on the other side. Whilst, the space in the kitchen is compact it does allow for everything to be freshly prepared and cooked on site.
With modern and flexible working, this new environment is regularly busy and popular with employees throughout the day with the café area being open from 8am until the office shuts. Our design concept was based on natural materials with real wood and neutral colours being used to reflect the history of sugar.
