EMW Law : New Gatwick Office Space

ABDA were recently appointed to fit out the top floor space of EMW’s new office building in Gatwick, developing a warm and friendly design which took inspiration from the company’s commitment to being a firm that’s built on relationships.

Drawing on distressed materials and dark colours, the new office project, which was led by ABDA designer  Michael Hall, began life as a series of mood boards, visuals and samples, developing the concept for a welcoming and professional office space.

Michael said:

To develop the almost cosy ambience that the EMW team desired, we chose distressed-style finishes for the walls and flooring, utilising oiled timber floorboards to clad the walls in meeting rooms and reception, and for fixed joinery features throughout.

To bring balance to the space, low level finishes were dark and light at a higher level, with the client choosing a denim-effect carpet in a dark shade, which created a good foundation for the space. The charcoal greys and timber tones at mid height also became a great backdrop for white sculptural pendant lighting.

”All of these elements help to create a welcoming area for clients and a relaxed space for breakout meetings and collaborative work”, Michael continues, ”domestic-style finishing touches were added, including soft white sculptural pendant lighting and distressed leather Chesterfield sofas, adding character to the reception area”.

The ABDA team worked closely with data, AV and M&E firms to route, house and adapt services for the client’s requirements, which included a large 84” meeting room screen, which was set into a study room style cabinet and acoustic server cabinet with full height storage bank.

Utilising our hospitality and foodservice expertise, ABDA also fitted a new kitchen to be used for general day-to-day use, as well occasional hospitality events. A new coffee and drinks station was also built to serve the firm’s meeting rooms.

Joy Vollans, CEO at EMW Law commented:

We’ve really enjoyed working with ABDA on the fit-out of our new office.  They listened to what we wanted to achieve, understood our requirements and delivered a fantastic result in line with our brand.   Our flexible working space is proving very popular enabling both clients and colleagues from our other offices to work with us without any disruption.

Keeping with ABDA’s focus on sustainability and an environmentally friendly ethos, the whole of the 400M² office space was fitted with carpet tile from 100% regenerated nylon for the pile, a material which is called ECONYL and is made up of nylon waste from landfills and oceans around the world. For the carpet’s backing, 90% recycled content was used, this being the major material used in the refurbishment.

EMW Law are a modern and forward-thinking law firm with offices in London and Milton Keynes. Their expansion to a third site at Gatwick was announced at the end of 2017.
