Independent Cinema Design at Curzon Sheffield

ABDA designed for Curzon cinemas a brand new entertainment venue.

Transforming former Natwest Bank hall and grade two listed heritage building close to the famous Crucible Theatre in Sheffield into a luxurious cinema including 3 auditoriums, private viewing area and roof top bar terrace with views across the Sheffield skyline. Curzon Sheffield’s new interior was inspired by Sheffield’s rich industrial heritage, in particular the specialised skill bases from the late 18th century.

Taking cues from industries such as the steel works and decorative silver crafts, ABDA brought together an industrial theme combined with subtle detail to create a thoughtful interior. With a muted palette to compliment the mass of the building and the rich original architectural features ABDA used carefully chosen materials to create an intimate environment, features such as unfinished steel ceiling tiles within the foyer draw the customer to the box office, whilst timber and steel cladding to the imposing auditorium bring warmth and scale.

With atmospheric corridors, visitors will be intrigued to explore the space finding several areas to sit, relax, and enjoy Curzon Sheffield’s cinema experience. The selection of reclaimed materials and replica items allow us to subtly reference the industrial era, dramatic lighting to the box office adds a sense of theatre and range of informal lounge seating draws waiting customers into the foyer areas.
